A 20 metre wide chasm with a 23 metre drop rope bridge that connects to Carrick-a-Rede island


Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge links the mainland to the tiny island of Carrickarede. Originally installed by salmon fishermen in 1755 today its a popular tourist scary walk for tourists!

Managed by the National Trust, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge located near Ballintoy in County Antrim, is a 20 metre wide with a 23 metre drop 'rope bridge challenge'.

A multitude of mammals can be see in the sea including basking sharks, dolphins and porpoises and large number of birds including guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and fulmars make Carrickarede island and the mainland their home.

Salmon was big business here for over 400 years. Today ancient fishing machinery can be spotted as you take your walk around the island.

On Carrick-a-Rede island visitors can view the Salmon fisherman's cottage with is open to the public.

To complete your visit why not have a drink in the Weighbridge tea-room and enjoy the views across to Rathlin and the Scottish islands.
