In the sheltered harbour of Glengarriff in Bantry Bay is Ilnacullin (Garinish Island) a small island of 15 hectares of trees and shrubs of rare beauty

Garnish Island

Garnish island, located in Glengarriff harbour in Bantry Bay in West Cork with its wide range of exotic species, attracts many tourists who explore it each summer.

The island is famous for its trees and shrubs that grow in a unique micro-climate caused by the island's position within the golf stream and the protection that Glengarriff harbour affords.

The gardens on the Garnish Island were designed between 1911 and 1914 by the architect and garden designer, Annan Bryce and Harold Peto with over 100 people involved in moving soil, planting trees and constructing the wall gardens.
