Set on Sheep's Head peninsula is Sheep's Head lighthouse. Situated on the map halfway between Dingle and Cork, it stands 7 meters high with its lantern positioned 83 meters above sea level. Its white coloured lamp offers a range of 18 miles with a backup lamp and diesel generation that automatically starts if there is an electrically power cut.

Sheep's Head lighthouse began operations on 14th October 1968. It bulb flashes 3 times every 15 seconds and protects boats and ships from the submerged Bullig rocks off to its South.

Automatic operation of the lighthouse began in 1993.

The Sheep's Head peninsula is a popular 88 km walkers trail situated between Bantry Bay and Dunmanus Bay in County Cork that takes in views of the lighthouse and is recognised route on the Wild Atlantic Way.
