An unfinished fortified house built in 1601 as a defence against English settlers


Kanturk Castle


Kanturk Castle is a rectangular building built from limestone with 4 towers, 1 on each corner. The structure consists of 4 stories and 5 in each tower.

Notable features include a Tudor Renaissance door, 'Burgundian' arch windows and well preserved fireplaces.

An Tasice (The National Trust for Ireland) took over the care of the building from the English National Trust in 2000.

The castle is situated beside the River Dalua near Banteer, Kanturk in the Blackwater Valley in County Cork. Its grand structure measures 28 meters in length, 11 metres deep and 29 metres in height.
