A cut granite 14 metre high lighthouse that has protected Donegal Bay since 1831

Saint John's Point lighthouse

Made of cut granite, Saint John's Point lighthouse set on a rocky outcrop was designed by George Halpin Senior in 1831.

Its 2 yellow and 3 black striped 14 metre high tower makes it stand out against the surrounding landscape.

The lighthouse's operation became automated in 1932 and was converted to work via electrical power in 1962.

St John’s Point light protects Donegal Bay and signals to boats and ships the Northern side of the bay and Killybegs harbour.
