Knight's Town on Valentia Island
The largest town on Valentia Island, Knight's Town at the Eastern tip of the island is a popular destination for tourists on the Ring of Kerry
Knight's Town is the location of the worlds first transatlantic telephone cable which was finally installed in 1866. After many transatlantic attempts and failures it became the first time in history that an electronic telegraph could be sent back and forth between Knight's Town and Newfoundland in Canada.
Knight's Town is also home to the the mobile Eco Bus cafe, a red London bus that has been converted into a cafe and stands proudly on the harbour.
On Market Street you will find the Knight's Town coffee shop and guest house. Popular with tourists and one of the best places to have scones and cream!
Knight's Town harbour is awash with colourful buildings and boats.
Valentia Island itself is one of Ireland's most westerly points. It lies off the coast of County Kerry on the Wild Atlantic Way and is linked to the mainland by the Maurice O'Neill Memorial Bridge at Portmagee and a ferry that runs from Knight's Town harbour.
