The original home of Irish poet, W. B. Yeats, Balscadden House in Howth is one of many tourist sites to discover


In Howth in Country Dublin, East of central Dublin the famous Irish poet, W. B. Yeats lived at Balscadden House between 1880 - 1883.

The plaque beside the front door reads "BALSCADDEN HOUSE W.B. YEATS POET LIVED HERE 1880 - 1883. I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams". A famous W. B. Yeats quote reads "There are no strangers, only friends that you have not met yet."

Howth, just 30 minutes from Dublin City offers visitors many attractions. Visit the cliff walk with panoramic views of Ireland's Eye, a small uninhabited nature preserve and home to a Martello tower and views out over the Irish sea.

Howth village has two golf courses, Howth Golf Course with its exceptional views from the 16th tee and Deer Park Golf and Footgolf, with a hotel offering a pool, sauna, spa and gym.

The National Transport of Ireland museum is located in Howth. Vehicles on public display date from between 1883 and 1984.

Howth Castle with its gate tower and keep dating back to the 15th century, is open to the public and is one of the oldest residential castles in Ireland, currently inhabited by the Gaisford Saint Lawrence family. Its gardens are well known for its wild rhododendron and its beech hedges.
