A 20,000 year old glacial valley with two lakes, and a monastic site

The Gendalough glacial valley formed during the ice age. The Glendalough Lower and Upper Lakes were formed and today are a popular tourist trail.

The Glendalough visitor centre is the perfect base to start your walk from to discover the many sights of the Glendalough glacial valley in the Wicklow Mountains National Park.

Begin by crossing a bridge that takes you into the heart of the Wicklow Mountains National Park.

Glendalough monastic site

Explore the Glendalough monastic site and the Round Tower and enter the National park, following trails to the Poulanass waterfall.

Take the walks around the Glendalough Lower Lake and Glendalough Upper Lake and see Saint Kevin's Bed surrounded by the Wicklow Mountains.

Glendalough mines and miners village

Continue beyond the Glendalough Upper Lake to the remote Glendalough mines where up until the 1957 lead was mined. Continue yet further to see the remains of the Glendalough mining village.
